An interim report was tabled in Parliament today into the proposed restructure of Victoria’s fire services, pursuant to the Firefighters’ Presumptive Rights Compensation and Fire Services Legislation Amendment (Reform) Bill 2017.
As a member of the Fire Services Bill Select Committee, I commend the work of my fellow committee members, Parliament staff, and those who contributed to more than 1,500 submissions and seven public hearings over the course of six weeks.
The inquiry has been a huge undertaking, involving a number of contentious issues. As such, the bill and the inquiry have generated much interest in the wider community. I can assure the committee is working rigorously towards a final report and recommendations that will be presented in mid-August.
